How we Ship and What it Costs.

Each shipping address needs a separate order 

Shipping applies to all items on an order sent to a single address.  If you wish to ship to multiple addresses, you will need to place separate orders, one for each shipping address. 

We ship 5 day FedEx ground or 3 day FedEx Express Saver within the 'lower 48' US states

Within the “lower 48” US states, we ship items using FedEx, using ground service (up to 5 business days) or FedEx Express Saver (up to 3 business days).   Our shipping and handling fees are based on the weight of the products shipping to a single address.  In addition to the FedEx time, we need up to two or three days to pack your item and get it over to FedEx. If this doesn't work for you, see instructions for special shipping services, below.

The shipping & handling charges appear after you click CHECK OUT on your order form.  You see it in question #3 Shipping Method (your ship to address is question #2) while you are verifying the items you ordered and before you have committed to buy anything.  You indicate to us how quickly you want to receive your order by choosing either ground or express service in question #3.  

Heavy orders (more than 50 pounds) will need to be split into smaller orders 

If the entire order exceeds 50 pounds, the grouch will ask you to separate it into smaller orders, via a yellow warning triangle and message that appears on the top of your checkout screen.  If you see this message, click on VIEW ORDER, delete some items, then CHECKOUT the lighter order.  Or you may follow the instructions described for special shipping services.

Follow these instructions if you need special shipping services

You may wish us to send your items in ways we have not priced, for example: 

  • to addresses in Alaska, Hawaii, the US territories and Canada
  • addresses outside the US
  • several heavy, bulky items

We can't anticipate all the variations, but a real grouch will gladly examine your order and provide you with a quote to fill and ship your order according to your instructions.  The best means to do this is via email.

We will respond to the originating email address; if you also provide a telephone number it will allow us to clarify anything we might need.

Return Guarantee

Return Guarantee

If, for any reason, you are not 100% satisfied with your selection, return it within 30 days of receipt for a refund of your purchase price.  Typically, shipping and handling fees are non-refundable.  Neither are items you have had us customize for you.  

To return merchandise,

  • Call us (703 615-4981) or email us (thegrouch@ruffledgrouch.com) to get a Return Authorization.  This allows us to know to expect it, what is wrong with the item/order and what action you want us to take
  • Please securely wrap the item in its original or equivalent packing
  • Print the Return Authorization code with your return address on the outside of the shipment
  • Insure the package for the original value of the merchandise, (e,g., what you paid for it)

What can be returned:

  • All products can be returned
  • Products must be returned within 30 days of receipt and have an Return Authorization code.
  • Products we have customized for you, if we can accept them back, may require a restocking fee, which means you might not get the full amount of your purchase price refunded.
  • If appropriate refund checks will be mailed to your ship-to address.

If you are reading this, you probably did not refuse to accept delivery of the damaged item, but discovered that some components were damaged during shipping.  Unless it has been completely pulverized, we will want you to return it or we could help you try to fix it if it is a simple fix.  Call us soon after you discover the damage, at (703 615-4981) or send an email (thegrouch@ruffledgrouch.com) to explain the situation.  A grouch will let you know how to proceed.

We think we make a pretty sturdy product, but even the most careful households occasionally experience an unfortunate bump or thud that knocks off one of our creatures.  Many of the repairs are simple, if you know how the item is assembled.  Wood glue, like Elmer's, can tighten up a loose arm or nose.  Most of the wooden 'accessories' are attached with glue and dowels.  A small dot of Krazy Glue can reattach a glass eye.  

For more serious breaks, such as a broken arm, wood glue or Krazy Glue along the break line might allow you to reattach the pieces.  Each piece is made individually and by hand so there is no such thing as 'spare parts.'   If a piece breaks, we might be able to duplicate it, but we can't reach into the spare parts bin and send you a replacement.  Each of these items is made by hand and the parts are not interchangeable.  However, you can always contact us at thegrouch@ruffledgrouch.com  if you think we might be of assistance.
